Online games have been and will continue to be one of the most popular hobbies for teens due to how accessible they are at current times. It provides stimulation that is great for entertainment and satisfaction to people of all ages. Moreover, they are designed to be addictive using state-of-the-art behavioral psychology to keep you hooked. But the same with other sports, it also has its own disadvantages. With this, as students and individuals who value health, digging deeper into the causes and effects of online gaming addiction would teach a variety of people to take appropriate action.

Definition

Online gaming addiction is the compulsive or uncontrolled use of video games, in a way that causes problems in other areas of a person's life.

Causes

There are many causes of online gaming addiction which may include escapism, parental neglection, social acceptance, or mental health problems.

Effects

Online gaming addiction can greatly put a person's health at risk, may that be physically, mentally, or socially.

Preventions

Preventions may include having a break, parent supervision, trying different hobbies, or bonding with others.

Towards The Need Of Viewers

As a way of spreading awareness about online gaming addiction, streaming has been a requirement that the team thinks, would greatly benefit the majority.

Streaming refers to watching videos or listening to audio content without having the need to download it first.



What are the types and platforms for streaming?

You may watch or listen to many different types of streaming such as movies, music videos, video games, TV shows, and others on streaming platforms like Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, etc. Note that it is important that you are able to upload appropriate content to your designated streaming platform.

Our group has conducted a survey to dig deeper into the thoughts and opinions of viewers on 3 certain contents; Educational Videos, Community Based Videos, and Video Podcasts.


Beliefs and Opinions on the Topic

  • 48 out of the 50 respondents have knowledge as to what/how online games work. 2 respondents, however, do not know what/how online games work.
  • Call Of Duty is the most popular video game among all 50 students, accumulating 42/50 votes. Fortnite, on the contrary, has the least votes having a total of 26/50.
  • 42 students think that online gaming addiction is not okay. 8 students, on the other hand, think that online gaming addiction is okay.
  • 30 respondents have experienced being bullied through online gaming. 20 respondents have not experienced being bullied through online gaming.

  • Attitudes on the Topic

    • 45 students are aware of how online gaming addiction affects their health. 2 students are not, while 3 students do not care.
    • 25 respondents always play online games. The other 25 respondents, however, do not always play online games.
    • 49 students believe online gaming is fun. 1 student, on the other hand, does not believe online gaming is fun.

What do we need to learn?

Online Gaming may appear to be good for building up character development, but the lack of self-limitation of teenage students to this is closely linked to online gaming addiction, greatly affecting our well-being, whether socially, mentally, physically, or emotionally. Thus, the viewers need to:

  • Know how online gaming addiction affects the overall health of a player.
  • Manage their time when playing online games to avoid addiction.
  • Analyze what online games are appropriate for their age.
  • Learn ways how to overcome online gaming addiction.

A stream should equip the following characteristics for good performance.

  • Know the trends.
  • When starting a stream or uploading content, it's important to keep up with the trends. This makes your content more interesting and engaging and it helps you create content that your audience wants as well, allowing you to increase the number of your viewers.

  • Be clear.
  • Your content should be clear to make your audiences' viewing experience understandable.

  • Engage.
  • Engaging with your audience keeps things enjoyable and gets people to stick around. Low chance of boredom and a high chance of fun!

  • Be energetic.
  • It's best to maintain a fun stream with energetic energy as this is one of the most important keys to having a successful stream.

  • Don't forget to be professional!
  • Executing professionalism in appearance, way of talking, gestures, and the overall process of streaming allow your content to be appropriate for a variety of individuals.

Conclusion

It has been a challenging ride working toward the finish line for Group 5. However, our becoming one by helping one another enabled us to manage and reach the end of our school year together. The process of how we found the need for streaming was kind of easy as the subject's Experience Guides and the ideas of our members served an important role in achieving our goal. Though it may be easy to understand, it was hard to properly execute. We have focused on 3 certain content types which are Educational Videos, Community Based Videos, and Video Podcasts. Forming these three choices were based on what content type and platform would best suit our topic, online gaming addiction. In order to dig deeper on its viewers, audience demographics were required so we released a survey. Releasing a survey was one of the most exciting part for our group as it gives us the chance to communicate and understand viewers of a certain content type more, a crucial step toward finding the need for streaming. As a result, we are proud of the work we have done and will continue to work hard and do our best in the future.
